Will Bob be spearheading the e-mobility revolution in Uganda?
Uganda is “a boda-boda country” with over 450,000 motorcycle taxis.
The leaps and bounds growth of motorcycle taxis, known as boda-bodas, has been fueled by rapid population explosion and urbanization. Estimates suggest that boda-bodas account for over 60 percent of all taxi trips in Uganda. The importance of boda-bodas relates to its affordability, ease of maintenance, speed and adaptability.
The boda-boda industry is contributing significantly to Uganda’s economy. The significance of boda-bodas to the economy aside, boda-bodas also pose a huge dilemma: most of them use fossil fuel and are big emitters of carbon dioxide, a common greenhouse gas which is detrimental to the environment.
It is this dilemma – boda-boda's usefulness versus the danger to the environment that Bob Eco wants to solve. The powerful, reliable and comfortable Bob Eco Electric Motorcycles uses a high capacity and rechargeable lithium battery and emits no noxious exhaust fumes and particles.
The Bob Eco Model
Bob Eco looks at lithium battery charging as a swapping service. The positive implication of the battery swap model is that riders do not need to buy their own batteries, or wait around while they recharge. In under 60 seconds a rider is served and gets on the move.
